Interview of an Adult
I chose to interview my dad about euthanasia. He believes that the topic of euthanasia is important because its relevant, meaning health care debates deal with or touch upon these issues such as whether or not to legalize voluntary euthanasia, and because it deals with life and death. He does not agree with involuntary euthanasia at all; he does not think that starving someone to death, even if it's by taking away their feeding tubes, is humane; and he does not like the idea of people being put in pain. When I asked him if he believed voluntary active euthanasia should be legal, he said that he is afraid of this law being abused, but if very strict laws were placed on voluntary active euthanasia, then yes it should be legal. However, he said that one of the many guidelines to these strict laws should be that the patient must be in pain that cannot be controlled. My dad is afraid, though, that these strict laws would become less strict throughout the years eventually leading to that slippery slope to involuntary euthanasia. Not knowing if there is a way to make sure that this slippery slope to involuntary euthanasia will not occur, my dad believes that making involuntary active euthanasia legal will lead to violence.
